Story of Change: Sor Piseth (Klahan9 TV Audience)
“I think I can dream bigger and I am now more confident in making this dream a reality.” You should never give up on your dream, whether it is big or small, you need to have a clear goal for it to be achieved”
Piseth is currently a Mobile Banking Support Officer at Cambodia Post Bank PLC. He followed the program of Klahan9 via weekly the broadcast on television, of Dream Station and the YouTube show the 9:09 Show.
Inspired by Flowers episode and others, Piseth is determined to pursue and strengthen his dream. After he watched Phone and Chef he learned about financial planning and shared it with his young students while he was doing his volunteer job on an app development course.
He also learned ways to plan, set goals and brainstorm ideas on how to achieve his dream. He has a dream to own a coffee shop, and he has figured out some ideas from Dream Station such as preparing a budget, making a financial plan, monthly spending and to brainstorm a list of materials to run the coffee shop. He said he is going to make it happen in one year. He acknowledges that it is a big dream, but he never gives it up. “On the way to achieve my dream, there are probably countless obstacles and challenges, but I need to anticipate them, and seek possible ways to solve them”, Piseth added.
To earn more money, he wants to make his mother’s tailor shop bigger. “I want to make a name of my family in the neighborhood because we are good at what we do. So, why not make it bigger?”, Piseth said.
Inspired by Sreyrong’s episode on Dream Station that he watched and showed to his mother, he decided to discuss with his mother directly about his plan “I was not that open to my mother before watching Dream Station. Now I am more willing to discuss with her and take her advice.”, he added. As part of the plan, he wants to build up another floor for his house, so he can use the whole space downstairs as a tailor shop. He also plans to get a loan from the bank and divide the money when necessary to support his plan.
Regarding family relationships, Piseth learnt from the Fashion episode with Chris. He learned about gender stereotyping which constrains people from pursuing their dream, and that reminded him of his brother. Piseth showed the episode to his mother hoping that she would understand his brother’s choice and what he is doing. Through mutual understanding, his family relationships have seen some improvement in the way they all negotiate and take up ideas.
